Ayer root is recommended for bronchitis, cramps, nervous and digestive disorders, loss of appetite, gas, flatulence, diarrhoea, rheumatism and chest pain. Ayer has disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, antispasmodic and astringent properties. In addition, the plant has a positive effect on children’s mental development, and its juice improves eyesight and memory.
In folk medicine, aloe vera preparations are used for stomach ailments, acidity problems, gastric and duodenal ulcers, kidney stones, inflammation of the bladder, liver, gall bladder and gastritis. It is also used to make medicines for depression, coughs, fever, various inflammations, tumours, haemorrhoids, skin diseases, numbness of the limbs, vascular disorders and general weakness.
In Ayurvedic medicine, Ayer root powder is used for common colds, sinus infections, asthma – simply by inhaling the powder through the nose. It is true that in large doses, Ayer acts as a sedative, which is why it should not be taken in excess. The roots themselves can be chewed, dried or used to make a macaw root tea. It is very healthy to use ground aira root for sprinkling on dishes. Chewing the roots of the arils relieves toothache, and a pinch of ground root powder with half a teaspoon of honey every morning and evening is good for improving memory.
A decoction of Ayer treats dental problems, periodontal disease and bad breath. In case of sore throat, mouth rinses are used. The infusion can be used to treat skin rashes, flush out purulent wounds, ulcers and bedsores. For dandruff removal and strengthening of hair roots, it is advisable to rub the decoction on the scalp.
How to make a decoction of arils?
To make a decoction of the plant, you need 10 grams of dry arils (two tablespoons) in 200 ml of water. Boil for 15 minutes. Then cool and drain. Increase the volume of the resulting decoction to 200 ml. Drink half a glass 4 times a day, 30 minutes before meals.
